Elizabeth Taylor dies
Elizabeth Taylor has died at the age of 79. Surrounded by her family, the screen legend and close friend to the late Michael Jackson, passed away at 1:28 AM at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
The screen legend was surrounded by her children Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd, and Maria Burton.”
Taylor’s rep stated that she died “peacefully” from congestive heart failure, “a condition with which she had struggled with for many years. Though she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilized and it was hoped that she would be able to return home. Sadly, this was not to be.”
Taylor, married 8 times (twice to Richard Burton), she is survived by 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Taylor’s son, Michael, says, “My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love. She was brave and relentless advocacy in the fight against HIV/AIDS … We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place for Mom having lived in it.”
Elton John stated, “We have just lost a Hollywood giant; more importantly, we have lost an incredible human being.”
Known for her constant fight against HIV/AIDS, she showed understanding and compassion when many else did not.
Dr. Arnold Klein stated “She’s the greatest human being I’ve ever known. She used her celebrity not just for fame but to change the world. Elizabeth gave AIDS a face and that’s when people started accepting it as a disease.”
Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor’s friendship was known to the world and the actress stated her devastation at the loss of her close friend upon his death on her twitter page.
“My heart … my mind … are broken. I loved Michael with all my soul and I can’t imagine life without him. We had so much in common and we had such loving fun together. I was packing up my clothes to go to London for his opening when I heard the news. I still can’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it. It can’t be so. He will live in my heart forever but it’s not enough. My life feels so empty. I don’t think anyone knew how much we loved each other. The purest most giving love I’ve ever known. Oh God! I’m going to miss him. I can’t yet imagine life without him. But I guess with God’s help … I’ll learn. I keep looking at the photo he gave me of himself, which says, ‘To my true love Elizabeth, I love you forever.’ And, I will love HIM forever.”
Taylor is the one who gave Michael his royal title, The King of Pop. She was a true friend who stood by him during times of trouble.
Ms. Taylor will be buried in a plot next to her parents at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in L.A.
