Martin Bashir, the man many feel responsible for the troubles Michael Jackson faced after the airing of his special Living with Michael Jackson, painted a very different picture of what he saw at Neverland while filming.
His documentary stated that Neverland was a very scary place for kids. The footage filmed at the same time by Jackson’s crew painted a very different picture and were used to develop the Footage You Were Never Meant to See special (referred to as the rebuttal interview). It is quite apparent from the broadcast that what was said during the interviews as opposed to what made it into the Bashir’s documentary vary in content.
Many blame the biased reporting by Bashir on what would open up MJ to future allegations.
Upon hearing of MJ’s death, Martin Bashir commented on Michael Jackson’s death finally stating what so many wanted to hear from him in light of the damage that his documentary had on Jackson’s life – Broadcast talking about loosing a man where there was no evidence of wrongdoing. For many, he words now ring empty. For others, his admissions that he believed no wrong doing ever took place constitute admission of lying in the original broadcast.
Whatever Bashir’s motives were at the time at creating what appeared to be a very biased piece of journalism, the damage it caused cannot be debated as the facts speak for themselves.
Hear for yourself.
